License: RN - Multi-state Compact or Reg Nurse (Single State)
Certifications: Basic Life Support (BLS) - Instructor, PALS
required Description: The RN Clinical Periop Nurse is a proactive
member of an interdisciplinary team of licensed and unlicensed
caregivers. They ensure that patients, families, and significant
others receive individualized high-quality, safe patient care. The
RN practices in a clinical environment administered by Nurse
Managers and other leaders. Support is provided through a shared
governance model and a professional practice model. It is expected
that all RN Clinical Nurses are licensed and knowledgeable,
upholding the practice of nursing as outlined by the professional
nurse practice act. The RN implements the Scope of Practice and
Code of Ethics Standards put forth by the professional nursing
association. As a member of the patient services team, the
individual is expected to uphold the voice of the patient, system
policies, and procedures while supporting service excellence goals.
Core Responsibilities and Essential Functions: Performs the nursing
process (assessment, diagnosis, identification of outcomes,
planning, implementation, and evaluation). Uses evidence-based
practice and analytical/critical thinking to ensure that care is
individualized. Coordinates care through effective partnerships,
recognizing that caring is central to achieving optimal patient
care outcomes. Provides relationship-based patient-centered care
consistent with population-specific characteristics. Partners with
the patient and significant others, using appropriate methods for
setting and purpose. Practices using current clinical practice
standards and coordinates the delivery of safe, quality patient
care. This includes timely documentation and promoting a
respectful, inclusive clinical environment. Demonstrates teamwork
and collaboration, practicing in a fiscally responsible manner.
Participates in performance improvement, research, and shared
governance activities to promote safe, quality patient care.
Completes all initial and ongoing professional competency
assessments and mandatory education. Serves as a preceptor and/or
mentor for other professional nurses and staff. Models the
professional practice of nursing and creates a healthy work
environment. Promotes evidence-based practice, nursing research,
and performance improvement in nursing. Participates in data
collection and poses relevant clinical questions to advanced
evidence-based practice. Supports efficient and effective use of
human and material resources. Plans for the care of patients across
the continuum in the course of giving direct patient care.
Participates in the development of protocols and procedures in
collaboration with care managers and other healthcare team members.
Performs other duties as assigned. Complies with all policies,
standards of work, and code of conduct relevant to this position.
Required Minimum Education: Diploma from an accredited nursing
program. Bachelor's degree in nursing (BSN) from an accredited
school of nursing preferred. Required Minimum Skills: Ability to
read, write, and speak the English language. Optimizes the use of
technology to support clinical care and holds basic computer
skills. Strong interpersonal, collaborative, and customer service
skills. Ability to function in a fast-paced environment and respond
to emergencies in a decisive, composed, and respectful manner.
Possesses excellent time management skills and practices nursing
using evidence and analytical skills. Possesses strong critical
thinking skills.
