The Senior System Engineer-Citrix is responsible for maintaining a
functioning, secure, and efficient ecosystem for the end user's and
server computing needs. The Sr. System Engineer will develop
software deployment packages, develop software patching plans and
perform needed testing to determining stability and security prior
to any deployments. Will act at an escalation point for the Support
Operation Center (SOC) technicians and be responsible for engaging
vendors when incidents cannot be resolved through internal
controls. He/she shall also function as overflow support for the
network and server teams as needed. Shall be responsible for
maintaining server, desktop and laptop deployment, images and will
be responsible for aspects of hardware / software vendor
relationships. Other duties as assigned.
Essential Functions, Duties, and Responsibilities:
- Performs installation, configuration, migration, and maintenance
of assigned technology.
- Manages backend system/application environment and ongoing
operations.
- Troubleshoots software and/or hardware issues/failures and
resolves alerts and performs remediation activities.
- Determines migration and upgrade impacts and diagnose/resolve
complex technology/application errors
- Assess software patches and create recommended patch list with
logical explanation in terms of compliance.
- Develop and optimize pre- and post- patching process to ensure
proper implementation without any outages.
- Score each patch based on risks & opportunity to prioritize.
Identify which patches are more valuable to the organization than
others.
- Coordinate patch schedule with other teams such as patch team,
infrastructure management, security operations, governance & risk.
Communicate project and operational metrics.
- Assist in developing action plans, schedules, budgets, status and
metrics reports as well as other management communications intended
to improve the patch management program.
- Must be able to create deployment patches and package using tools
such as SCCM and WSUS.
- Automates IT processes utilizing modern scripting languages and
other automation tools.
- Develops processes and procedures related to systems/application
administration.
- Create new and update existing OS images for systems.
- Resolve tickets escalated by the support operation center.
- Under direction of the engineering teams, monitor relevant IT
facilities, services, and systems as needed to maintain 7x24
service operation uptime.
- Build software deployment packages and maintain endpoint and
server environment and processes.
- Maintain the Configuration Item database within the service
management platform and generate accurate system baselines.
- Strong core knowledge of Microsoft Windows, MacOS and Windows 10
systems in an enterprise environment.
- Implement, operate and support endpoint management systems for
system builds, software deployment, inventory management, endpoint
protection and encryption utilizing MS SCCM, and Mcafee.
- Test patches in a non-Production environment and avoid business
outages based on the lab results.
- Assist in the process for vulnerability and patch management
ensuring they are compatible with the company's business needs and
strategic objectives
- Research, evaluate, develop, design and implement patch
remediation designs and standards following industry best
practices
- Develop and implement patch and vulnerability remediation process
including package creation, testing and deployment.
- Performs afterhours activities as needed for the environment and
technologies
- Ensure all clients receive latest definitions and investigate all
breaches.
- Ensures that all clients and servers have the latest 1st and 3rd
party security and critical patches and hotfixes.
- Experience with programming languages preferred (JavaScript,
Powershell, Python, XML, and .Net).
- Managing/monitoring/configuring/troubleshooting.
- Security and Capacity management and process automation and
improvement.
- A solid understanding of industry best practices for Patch
Management; specific demonstrated experience mapping business
processes and comparing those processes to industry best
practices.
- Must have excellent competency with patch management and other
patching tools.
- Proficiency in scripting of packaged installation of patches,
software and configuration changes.
- Expert knowledge of Microsoft System Center Configuration and
Operation Manager.
- Demonstrated experience in a Systems Administration role
supporting Microsoft Windows, Linux and VMware.
- Exceptional knowledge of Microsoft Server 2012 2016 and 2019.
- MS365 Enterprise Administrator Expert certification with a focus
on the development of software deployments, packaging and patching
with security in mind.
- A+. Server+ and Network+ certified.
Preferred:
- Advanced knowledge of SCCM and Mcafee
- Strong understanding of Internet/IP related technologies
including, but not limited to, routing, switching and sub-netting
and excellent understanding of network, system and application
security.
- Demonstrated project management experience.
- Working knowledge of ITIL v3 framework (certification
preferred).
- Experience with database server administration and
technologies.
- Ability to self-manage and prioritize multiple projects with
aggressive due dates.
- Excellent understanding of network, system and application
security.
- Comprehensive knowledge of storage concepts and skills with
various shared storage technologies (provisioning LUN's, expanding
volumes, configuring RAID, replication, snapshot) utilizing EMC,
Equallogic, Compellent, 3Par storage, Backup strategy and
replication.
Industry and Work Experience:
- 7 years of experience in progressively complex IT technical roles
within an enterprise environment
- 5 years of experience working with LAN technology
- 7 years of experience implementing/managing patch management,
software deployment and endpoint security.
Windows server engineering 10+ years exp
DNS and DHCP
Understanding of PKI
Certificates (ADCS) and ADFS
Academic:
- Bachelor's Degree required
